What is the WEEE Man and what does he represent?
The “WEEE Man” was constructed in 2006 as a symbol to us all about our potential impact on our environment. He represents the amount of electrical waste the average UK person consumes in their lifetime and is over 7m tall, weighs 3.3 tonnes and currently resides at the “Eden Project” in Cornwall.
He has been created to give us all an insight into the potential environmental impact of “throwing away” our electrical items. It’s constructed out of many pieces of electrical waste including large appliances, communications equipment, utensils, computers and much more. If you look closely you will see he even has old computer mice for teeth!
Imagining 60 million WEEE Men (the population of the UK) helps us realise the scale of the growing problem of electronic waste and also helps us to better understand the need for the WEEE directive. If you visualise 60 millions WEEE Men…that’s the amount of electrical waste we could be throwing in landfill throughout our lives!
If any more electrical waste is added to landfill our CO2 emissions will increase contributing to the growing global warming crisis. In addition the electrical waste items may be leaking harmful chemicals into the surrounding soil and groundwater and if the products are then incinerated the air will become polluted.
Electro Collect offers you an easy way to dispose of your electrical waste in a fully compliant and environmentally friendly way. Recycling your electrical waste with us allows you to rest assured that your electrical waste does not head to landfill and, instead, it is put to good use in the production of new products.
This allows you to save energy, conserve natural resources and make good use of your old electrical equipment all in one.
